Convert a bank statement to Tally XML .xml

Bring bank transactions into Tally Prime without retyping. This converts your statement PDF into Tally's "Import Data → Vouchers" XML — each transaction becomes a balanced Receipt or Payment voucher — with every figure checked against the statement's running balance first.

What the Tally XML contains

A standard Tally import ENVELOPE of vouchers: money in becomes a Receipt, money out a Payment, each as a balanced two-ledger entry.

Dates are in Tally's YYYYMMDD form and narrations carry the transaction description; amounts are currency-neutral numbers.

Why Tally XML

It loads a whole statement of bank entries into Tally in one import, instead of keying each voucher by hand.

It's the practical route for Indian businesses and accountants moving statement data into Tally Prime.

How to import it into Tally

  2. Download the Tally XML.
  3. In Tally Prime: Gateway of Tally → Import Data → Vouchers, and select the file.
  4. Map the bank and counter ledgers when prompted (see the note below).
info

Tally honesty: you map the ledgers

The file uses placeholder ledger names — "Bank Account" for your bank and "Suspense" as the counter ledger. Those ledgers must exist in your Tally company (or be mapped on import) for it to post cleanly; the file does not guarantee a clean import without that mapping. The vouchers are valid, balanced double entries — the bank and counter ledger choices are yours.

Checked before you download

Every conversion runs a reconciliation check — it ties the extracted transactions back to the statement's running balance, so credits and debits add up to the closing figure the bank printed. A statement that doesn't reconcile is flagged, not quietly exported — so your Tally XML file is correct before it reaches your books.
