Upload a Westpac New Zealand statement PDF and every transaction comes back as clean rows — date, description, withdrawal, deposit and the running balance in New Zealand dollars — checked so the closing figure ties out. Export to Excel, CSV, or an import file for Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks.

Westpac NZ is one of New Zealand's main trading banks. It's run separately from Westpac in Australia, in New Zealand dollars, and its statements use the payment fields Kiwi businesses rely on. Turning one into rows is what lets a sole trader or bookkeeper actually work with it.

What a Westpac NZ statement looks like

A Westpac New Zealand transaction account statement uses these columns:

Column

What's in it

Date

New Zealand format, `DD Mon YYYY`

Transaction

Payee and payment type, plus the particulars/code/reference on money in

Withdrawal

Amounts leaving the account

Deposit

Amounts paid in

Balance

The NZD balance after each line

Westpac NZ customers often run a set of accounts side by side under Westpac One — an everyday account, a savings account, maybe a business one — and a single PDF can cover more than one. The Transaction column names each payment and, on money in, the payer's reference, and a longer entry spills onto the line below. The catch when several accounts share a statement is that a stray wrapped line can land against the wrong account; the converter keeps each account's transactions and balance to itself, and reattaches every continuation line to the payment it belongs to.

Where to download your Westpac NZ statement

  1. Westpac One online banking: log in at westpac.co.nz, choose the account, open Statements, select the period and download the PDF.
  2. Westpac One app: tap the account, go to Statements, pick a statement and save the PDF.

A statement downloaded this way is a digital PDF with selectable text, so the conversion is exact. If you only have a scan or a photo of a posted statement, the converter reads it with OCR — that just takes a little longer.

Getting the numbers where you need them

  • Excel or Google Sheets — a clean `.xlsx` or CSV, one row per transaction, ready to total and filter.
  • Xero or MYOB — an import-ready bank file so the lines arrive as statement entries to reconcile.
  • QuickBooks, Zoho and others — the same data in each one's format.

Before you download, the figures are reconciled per account: each opening balance, plus deposits, minus withdrawals, has to reach its closing balance. When a statement spans an everyday and a savings account, that per-account check is what keeps one account's activity from bleeding into another's total.

Common snags with Westpac NZ statements

  • Several accounts, kept apart. When one PDF covers more than one account, each keeps its own opening and closing balance.
  • Continuation lines. A payee running onto the next line is reattached to its transaction and its account.
  • Not the same as Westpac Australia. This handles the New Zealand statement, in NZD; the Australian one is a different document.

Frequently asked questions

Can I convert a Westpac NZ statement to Excel for free?keyboard_arrow_down

Yes. Upload the PDF and get a clean Excel or CSV back free to start, with the running balance checked so the import lines up.

My statement covers a few Westpac accounts — will they stay separate?keyboard_arrow_down

Yes. When one PDF holds an everyday, savings or business account together, the converter keeps each account's transactions and balance to itself, so they aren't merged into a single running total.

Is this the same as Westpac Australia?keyboard_arrow_down

No. Westpac runs separately in each country; this page is for the New Zealand statement in NZD. The Australian Westpac statement is handled on its own page.

Can I use it for my GST return?keyboard_arrow_down

Yes. A clean Excel or Xero import gives you every withdrawal and deposit as sorted rows, far faster to reconcile for a GST period than working from the PDF.
