Upload a State Bank of India statement PDF and every transaction comes back as clean rows — transaction date, value date, narration, debit, credit and balance — checked so the closing figure ties out. Export to Excel, CSV, or a Tally-ready XML for your accountant.

SBI e-statements pack a lot into the narration column — UPI strings, NEFT and IMPS references, cheque numbers — and that's exactly what a plain copy-paste turns into a mess. For anyone filing GST or handing a year of transactions to a CA, the data has to come out as clean rows.

What an SBI statement looks like

An SBI account statement uses these columns:

Column

What's in it

Txn Date

The date the transaction was entered

Value Date

The date it actually affected the balance

Description / Narration

The full payment detail and reference

Ref No / Cheque No

The reference or cheque number

Debit

Money out

Credit

Money in

Balance

Running balance after the transaction

Two columns are worth understanding. Value Date can differ from the transaction date — a cheque deposited today may clear a day later — and that matters when you're reconciling to the day. And the narration is dense: an SBI line often reads like `TO TRANSFER-UPI/DR/...` or `BY TRANSFER-NEFT...`, carrying the method (UPI, NEFT, IMPS, cheque), the counterparty and a long reference. The converter keeps that whole narration on one row instead of spilling the reference into the next line.

Where to download your SBI statement

  1. OnlineSBI: log in at onlinesbi.sbi, go to Account Statement, choose the account and date range, and download the PDF.
  2. YONO app: open the account, select Account Statement (or Passbook), pick the period and save or email the PDF.

An SBI e-statement PDF is password-protected — it opens with the password SBI sets (details are on the download page). Once it's open, the text is selectable and the conversion is exact. A scanned passbook works too, through OCR.

Getting the numbers where you need them

  • Excel or Google Sheets — a clean `.xlsx` or CSV, one row per transaction, ready to total, filter and pivot.
  • Tally — a Tally-ready XML so the entries import as vouchers rather than being keyed in by hand.
  • Zoho Books, QuickBooks and others — the same data in each one's format.

Before download, the maths is checked: opening balance, plus credits, minus debits, has to reach the closing balance. On a year-long statement run for filing, that check is what catches a single line dropped between pages.

Common snags with SBI statements

  • Long UPI and NEFT narrations wrap. The full reference is kept on one row instead of being split.
  • Value date vs transaction date. Both dates are preserved so reconciliation is accurate.
  • Password-protected PDF. Open it with the SBI password first, then convert the opened file.

Frequently asked questions

Can I convert an SBI statement to Excel for free?keyboard_arrow_down

Yes. Upload the PDF and get a clean Excel or CSV back free to start, with the balance checked so it reconciles.

Can I import an SBI statement into Tally?keyboard_arrow_down

Yes. Export a Tally-ready XML and the transactions import as vouchers, so a CA doesn't have to type a year of entries by hand.

My SBI PDF is password-protected — will it still convert?keyboard_arrow_down

Open the PDF with the password SBI provides first. Once it opens, the converter reads the selectable text exactly.

What do the narrations like UPI, NEFT and IMPS mean?keyboard_arrow_down

They're the payment method: UPI for instant app payments, NEFT and IMPS for bank transfers, plus cheque references. The converter keeps the full narration attached to each transaction.

Can I use the converted statement for GST or income-tax filing?keyboard_arrow_down

Yes. A clean Excel or Tally export gives your accountant every debit and credit as sorted rows — far quicker to reconcile for a GST return or an ITR than working through a year of PDF pages by hand.
