Upload a Tide statement PDF and every transaction comes back as clean rows — date, description, money out, money in and the running balance — checked so the closing figure ties out. Export to Excel, CSV, or an import file for Xero, QuickBooks, FreeAgent or Zoho.

Tide is a business account built for sole traders, freelancers and small limited companies, run entirely through an app. That means every Tide statement is destined for the books — a Self Assessment, a set of company accounts, or a bookkeeper's month-end — and to be useful there it has to come out as rows, not a PDF.

What's on a Tide statement

A Tide statement lists business activity with a date, the payee, the amount and a running balance. A couple of things shape it:

  • Expense cards. Tide lets you issue cards to yourself or a team, and each card transaction carries the merchant, so software, stock and travel costs are easy to categorise once they're in a spreadsheet.
  • References and payment types. Faster Payments, Direct Debits and transfers are labelled, and payment references are kept, so you can tie a payment back to the invoice it settled.

A longer description can wrap onto a second line, and a plain PDF export reads that overflow as its own row. The converter joins it back so each payment is one clean transaction.

Where to find your Tide statement

  1. Open the Tide app or log in at tide.co, go to the account, and open Statements.
  2. Choose the month or a date range and export the PDF. Tide can also produce a CSV.
  3. Save the file, then upload it here.

Because Tide generates the PDF itself, the text is clean and the conversion is exact. If you've only been sent a scan or a screenshot, the converter reads it with OCR.

Getting it into your books

  • Excel or Google Sheets — one row per transaction with real numbers, ready to total and filter.
  • QuickBooks, Xero or FreeAgent — an import-ready file so the lines land as bank entries to reconcile.
  • Zoho and others — the same clean data in each one's format.

Every figure is reconciled before download: opening balance, plus money in, minus money out, has to equal the closing balance. For a limited company handing a year to an accountant, that check means the numbers add up rather than nearly adding up.

Common snags with Tide statements

  • Expense card detail kept. Each card transaction holds its merchant, so business costs stay easy to categorise.
  • CSV vs PDF. Tide can give you a CSV, but if all you have is the PDF — one an accountant asked for — the converter turns it into the same clean rows.
  • Multiple accounts. If a PDF covers more than one Tide account, each keeps its own balance rather than being merged.

Frequently asked questions

Can I convert a Tide statement to Excel for free?keyboard_arrow_down

Yes. Upload the PDF and get a clean Excel or CSV back free to start, with the balance checked so it reconciles.

Is Tide a good fit for Self Assessment or company accounts?keyboard_arrow_down

Yes. Because Tide is a business account, its statement holds your income and expenses; converting it to rows lets you total each side for a Self Assessment or hand a clean file to your accountant.

Where do I get my Tide statement?keyboard_arrow_down

In the Tide app or at tide.co: open the account, go to Statements, pick the period and export the PDF or CSV. That app-generated PDF converts cleanly.

Does it work for a Tide limited-company account?keyboard_arrow_down

Yes. Tide serves sole traders and limited companies alike, and both use the same statement layout — so the conversion produces the same clean rows whether you're filing Self Assessment or company accounts.

Does it read a scanned Tide statement?keyboard_arrow_down

Yes, with OCR — though a statement from Tide downloads as a native digital PDF that converts on its own.
