Upload a Monzo statement PDF and every transaction comes back as clean rows — date, description, amount and balance — checked so the closing figure ties out. Export to Excel, CSV, or an import file for Xero, QuickBooks, Zoho or Tally.

Monzo statements start out tidier than most, because they're generated by the app rather than an old banking system. But a PDF is still a PDF: you can't sum a column in it, and sole traders reconciling in Xero or QuickBooks need the data as rows, not a document.

Finding your statement in the Monzo app

Monzo is app-first, so this is where most people go:

  1. Open the Monzo app and tap the account (your personal account, a Pot won't have statements).
  2. Go to Account and choose Statements.
  3. Pick the month and export the PDF. You can also request a CSV directly from Monzo here.
  4. Monzo Business users find statements the same way under the business account.

Because the PDF is generated fresh by Monzo, the text is clean and the conversion is exact. If you've been sent a scan or a screenshot of one instead, the converter reads that with OCR.

What's on a Monzo statement

A Monzo statement lists transactions with a date, the merchant or payee, the amount, and a running balance. Two details are worth knowing:

  • Categories. Monzo tags spending — Groceries, Eating out, Transport, Bills and so on. That category can carry through to your export, which is handy when you're sorting business from personal or building a quick expense breakdown.
  • Clean merchant names. Monzo tidies the raw card data into a readable merchant name, so descriptions are already legible rather than the cryptic strings some banks print.

The account also uses Monzo's own sort code, so if you're matching payments across accounts, the Monzo transactions are easy to spot.

Getting it into your spreadsheet or books

  • Excel or Google Sheets — one row per transaction with real numbers, ready to total, filter or pivot.
  • Xero or QuickBooks — an import-ready file so the lines land as bank-feed entries to reconcile.
  • Tally, Zoho and others — the same clean data in each one's format.

Every figure is reconciled before download — opening balance, plus money in, minus money out, has to equal the closing balance — so a month exported from Monzo adds up rather than *nearly* adding up.

Common snags with Monzo statements

  • CSV vs PDF. Monzo can hand you a CSV directly, but if all you've got is the PDF (say, one a client or accountant sent you), the converter turns it into the same clean rows.
  • Pots. Money moved to and from Pots shows as transfers; each stays on the right side so your spending total isn't skewed.
  • Joint and business accounts. Monzo Joint and Monzo Business statements use the same layout, so the conversion is identical.

Frequently asked questions

Can I convert a Monzo statement to Excel for free?keyboard_arrow_down

Yes. Upload the PDF and get a clean Excel or CSV back free to start, with the balance checked so it reconciles.

Where do I get my Monzo statement?keyboard_arrow_down

In the Monzo app: tap your account, go to Account → Statements, pick the month, and export the PDF (or request a CSV). Business statements sit under the business account.

Monzo already gives me a CSV — why convert the PDF?keyboard_arrow_down

If you have the CSV, you may not need to. But often you only have the PDF — one forwarded by a client or accountant — and this turns that PDF into the same clean, reconciled rows.

Does it work for Monzo Business statements?keyboard_arrow_down

Yes. Monzo Business and Joint accounts use the same statement layout as a personal account, so the same conversion works.
