Upload an Allied Irish Banks statement PDF and every transaction comes back as clean rows — date, details, debit, credit and the running balance in euro — checked so the closing figure ties out. Export to Excel, CSV, or an import file for Xero, Sage, Surf Accounts or QuickBooks.

Ireland runs on SEPA, and it shows in an AIB statement. Payments carry SEPA references and, on transfers, the counterparty's IBAN — long strings that a plain copy-paste smears across the euro columns until the whole month stops adding up.

What an AIB statement looks like

An AIB current-account statement uses these columns:

Column

What's in it

Date

The day the transaction was applied

Details

The payee, payment type and any SEPA reference

Debit

Money out

Credit

Money in

Balance

Running balance after the transaction, in euro

The Details column is where SEPA leaves its mark. A single entry can be a card payment, a SEPA Direct Debit, a SEPA credit transfer or a standing order, and a transfer often prints a reference plus the other party's IBAN. That detail regularly spills onto a second line, which a rough export reads as a separate row and pushes into the balance column. The converter joins the reference and IBAN back onto the payment they describe, so each transaction stays a single, complete line.

The statement header also shows your own IBAN and BIC, which is handy when you're matching transfers between accounts or confirming which account a payment came from.

Where to download your AIB statement

  1. AIB Internet Banking: log in at aib.ie, select the account, open Statements, choose the period and download the PDF.
  2. AIB Mobile app: tap the account, go to Statements, pick a statement and save the PDF.

A statement downloaded this way is a digital PDF with selectable text, so the conversion is exact. If all you have is a scan or a photo of a posted statement, the converter reads it with OCR — that just takes a little longer.

Getting the numbers where you need them

  • Excel or Google Sheets — a clean `.xlsx` or CSV, one row per transaction, ready to total and filter.
  • Xero, Sage or Surf Accounts — an import-ready bank file so the lines arrive as statement entries to reconcile.
  • QuickBooks, Zoho and others — the same data in each one's format.

Before download, the euro figures are reconciled: opening balance, plus credits, minus debits, has to reach the closing balance. For a VAT return, where every euro in and out needs to be accounted for, that check is what confirms the exported month is complete rather than nearly so.

Common snags with AIB statements

  • SEPA references and IBANs. Long transfer references and counterparty IBANs stay attached to the right payment instead of bleeding into the balance.
  • Debit and credit in separate columns. Each euro amount stays on the correct side, so your totals aren't reversed.
  • Business accounts. AIB business current-account statements use the same layout, so the same conversion works.

Frequently asked questions

Can I convert an AIB statement to Excel for free?keyboard_arrow_down

Yes. Upload the PDF and get a clean Excel or CSV back free to start, with the running balance checked so the import lines up.

Are SEPA references and IBANs kept with each transaction?keyboard_arrow_down

Yes. The reference and any counterparty IBAN stay on the payment they belong to, so a transfer can still be matched to the invoice or party behind it.

Can I use it for my VAT return or annual accounts?keyboard_arrow_down

Yes. A clean Excel or accounting import gives you every debit and credit as sorted rows, far faster to reconcile for a VAT period or year-end than reading down the PDF.

Will it read a scanned AIB statement?keyboard_arrow_down

Yes, with OCR. A PDF downloaded from Internet Banking will always convert faster and cleaner than a scan.
