When the date of birth is not the one you use
Axis statements follow the date-of-birth convention, and when that fails the cause is almost never the format — it is which date of birth the bank holds. The password is built from the date recorded against the account, which is the date on the identity document used at account opening. Where a school certificate date differs from the date a family actually celebrates, it is the document date that counts.
The eight-digit form comes first: 2 January 1988 is 02011988, with leading zeros kept. If that is refused, Axis statements have also been reported using the four-digit DDMM form, and on some older files the first four letters of the name in lower case followed by DDMM.
Credit-card statements are worth treating as a separate case. Axis issues card statements through a different system from bank account statements, and a password that opens one will not necessarily open the other. If the file you are holding came from the cards portal, check the covering email rather than assuming the account rule applies.
For a joint account, the primary holder's date of birth is the one used. Statements for a company or a trust do not have a personal date of birth to draw on and are generally issued unprotected or with a password set by the relationship manager.
Axis issues card statements from a different platform to account statements, and this is where most of the confusion sits. A credit-card PDF arriving from the cards portal carries the rule stated in its own covering mail, which is frequently not the account rule at all. Before working through date formats, check which system actually sent the file — the sender address and the branding on the first page usually give it away.
Business and corporate accounts are a separate case again. Statements issued under Axis corporate internet banking are often unprotected, or protected with a password the company's administrator set rather than anything Axis generated. Nobody at a branch can recover that; the mandate holder is the only route.
For an NRE or NRO account, the date held may be the one from the passport used at onboarding rather than any later record, and passport transliterations sometimes differ from the spelling used domestically.
