- Find the email or SMS that delivered your HDFC Bank statement — it states the password rule.

Finding your HDFC Customer ID
HDFC is the main exception to India's date-of-birth convention: its statements are protected with your Customer ID, an eight-digit number the bank assigns when the relationship is opened. People who assume the date-of-birth rule and get locked out are usually just using the wrong identifier entirely.
The Customer ID appears in several places. It is shown in the HDFC mobile app under your profile, on the NetBanking dashboard once you sign in, printed on the first page of your cheque book, and in the welcome kit issued when the account was opened. It also appears on the statement itself, which is not much help when the statement is the thing you cannot open.
If you hold several HDFC products, such as a current account, a credit card and a loan, they share one Customer ID, so the same password opens statements across all of them. Joint accounts use the primary holder's ID.
If the Customer ID is rejected, the usual causes are a leading zero that was dropped when the number was copied, or a credit-card statement rather than a bank statement: HDFC card statements are billed separately and can follow their own rule. Check whether the file you are holding came from the cards portal or from NetBanking, because the two are issued by different systems.
Corporate and NRI accounts are a further exception. Corporate NetBanking issues statements through a separate channel where the password may be set by the company administrator rather than by HDFC, so the person who set the mandate is the one to ask.
What a HDFC Bank statement looks like
HDFC Bank is India's largest private-sector bank, and its e-statement arrives as a password-protected PDF.
An HDFC statement is dominated by UPI entries — long payee-and-reference strings — with a Chq/Ref No column, and it arrives password-protected.
Converting a HDFC Bank statement
Most converters ask you to strip the password in Acrobat first. That often rasterises the text layer, so a statement that would have extracted cleanly has to be read by OCR instead.
