Bank of India is one of the few large Indian banks that uses lower-case letters here. A format learned at another bank, applied in capitals, will simply not open the file.

The lower-case trap
PDF passwords are case-sensitive, and Bank of India is the bank where that matters most. The widely reported format uses the first four letters of the account holder's name in lower case — anan1606 for Anand Kumar born on 16 June. The identical pattern typed as ANAN1606 will be refused, and the error a PDF reader shows is the same generic "incorrect password" either way, so there is nothing on screen to tell you which half is wrong.
Anyone who has opened a statement from Union Bank or Federal Bank, where the same name-plus-DDMM shape is reported in capitals, tends to carry that habit across. If you are confident about the name and the date, try the other case before assuming the format has changed.
As with the other name-based patterns, the year of birth is not part of the password and punctuation is ignored. BOI statements downloaded from StarConnect internet banking and those emailed as e-statements are generally reported to follow the same rule, so the channel matters less here than it does at SBI.
If both cases fail, the registered name is the thing to check. Accounts opened long ago sometimes hold an expanded or differently transliterated spelling, and it is that stored version the password is built from.
Statements reach customers through three routes: a download from StarConnect internet banking, a file generated in the BOI Omni Neo app, and an e-statement delivered by email. The same rule is reported across all three, which makes Bank of India simpler than SBI in this respect — there is no channel-specific variant to work out.
Where a statement covers a fixed deposit or a loan account rather than a savings account, it may be issued without protection at all. A file that opens with no prompt is not a fault and does not mean anything is missing from it.
If you need the file for a lender or an accountant, send the unlocked version rather than passing on the password. Once a PDF is unlocked and re-saved there is no password to share, and no reason for a third party to hold a pattern built from your name and date of birth.
