Where the statement was emailed under the e-statement service, the covering mail carries the rule for that file, and PNB has used more than one over the years. Treat the email as authoritative and this page as background.
PNB's branch network absorbed two entire banks in 2020, and migrated customers are the group most likely to be locked out. If you opened the account at an Oriental Bank of Commerce or United Bank of India branch, the record that survived the merge is the one the password is derived from, including any spelling or date captured at that original opening.
Pensioners drawing through PNB are a further case worth mentioning, because pension accounts are often opened by an employer or a treasury rather than by the account holder, and the date captured at that point can differ from the one on personal documents.
