The two-digit year is the trap. A password built the usual way, with a four-digit year, is ten characters instead of the expected ten and simply fails.

The two-digit year
RBL's widely reported format ends in a two-digit year, which sets it apart from almost every other bank on this page. TANU100295 for Tanu Sharma born on 10 February 1995 — not TANU10021995, and not TANU1002. Anyone applying the four-digit habit learned elsewhere gets refused and assumes the name is wrong when the year is.
This format is reported most often for RBL credit-card statements, which arrive through the MyCard app and portal rather than net banking. An RBL account statement downloaded from net banking may follow the plain date-of-birth rule instead, so it is worth knowing which document you are holding.
The name is the one registered with the bank, in capitals, with punctuation and spaces dropped. Where the registered name begins with an initial, that initial is the first character.
As everywhere, the email that delivered the statement states the rule for that particular file, and it outranks any published list including this one.
RBL partnered with Bajaj Finserv on a large co-branded card portfolio, and statements for those cards are issued through the same MyCard system. The name recorded for the card is the one the password is built from, which for a co-branded product can differ from the name on a bank account held elsewhere.
If the four letters and the two-digit year are both certainly right, the remaining variable is the registered name. A middle name recorded at application, or an initial expanded, changes the first four characters entirely.
